Job Description: Youth Ministry Director/Worship Music Director

Cordata Presbyterian Church is a well established Christ-centered congregation on the growing Northern edge of beautiful Bellingham, WA.  We seek an energetic ministry leader with a calling and talents to direct both youth and worship music ministry for our warm and wonderful congregation.  This is an exciting opportunity for a ministry leader who loves Jesus, youth, and music.  Our next Youth Ministry & Worship Music Director will have the chance to weave together ministry opportunities from several distinct areas involving youth:  regular church families with elementary school age children who will soon enter middle school; children and youth from our Cordata neighborhood who participate regularly in mid-week programs; and students from the local Christian school, which operates one of its two campuses within our large well-designed building.  Our Sunday worship service includes both a praise team (which our YM&WMD will lead) and a solid choir (separately led). YOUTH MINISTRY DIRECTOR:

The Youth Ministry Director will help Cordata Church fulfill its mission to share God’s love and grace in our community through focused ministry in the area of Youth Ministry (sixth through twelfth grade).  As needed/assigned, the Youth Ministry Director may also share responsibility for digital communications needs (website, social media, mass communications, etc.) and assist with Worship Center sound/video coordination.

Responsibilities:

*  Oversee Youth ministries including (but not limited to) weekly youth group, Sunday School, retreats and activities.

*  Coordinate volunteers, schedules, facilities, and other resources for effective Youth Ministry.

*  Provide training and support for Youth Ministry Volunteers.

*  Evaluate and recommend to the Session through the Youth committee, all curriculum for Youth Ministries.

*  Communicate Youth Ministry specifics regularly with parents and the congregation (including our monthly newsletter “The Beacon”).

*  Support other assigned ministries including but not limited to Family Fun Night.

*  Collaborate with Children’s Ministry Director and other education ministries.

*  Meet regularly with supervisor, Elder for Youth/Children’s Ministries, and Youth committee.

*  Participate in staff meetings and other related meetings for the support of the ministry.

*  Prepare and  submit an annual plan for assigned area of ministry that will guide programs, calendar and budget.

Digital Communications:

*  Occasionally assigned, in coordination with other CPC Staff members

*  Maintain/develop church website, social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram etc.)

*  Coordinate church marketing efforts, event-based graphics

*  Document/cross train on Worship Center sound/video.

Qualifications:

*  Commitment to Jesus Christ and the life, mission, and ministry of the church.

*  High school graduate or above.

*  Experience working with youth in a ministry setting, or background in attending/leadership within a youth ministry.

*  Current first aid and CPR certification (required upon hiring).

*  Washington State Patrol clearance.

*  Compliance with applicable WA vaccination mandates or relevant exemption.

Desired:

*  Education – college or seminary graduate with emphasis in areas of education or ministry.

*  Youth Ministry Leadership – 1) record of successful experience in youth ministry setting, 2) experience recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers, 3) record of developing and maintaining positive relationships with youth, parents, and volunteers, and 4) experience with curriculum selection and implementation.

*  Experience with digital communications – 1) demonstrated experience with relevant software tools and social media, 2) ability to analyze and solve digital communications challenges in real time.

 

WORSHIP MUSIC DIRECTOR:

We are seeking a director for our music ministry to guide our congregation towards the redeeming power of the Risen Christ in worship.  Under the direction of our Pastor, the Worship Director is responsible for all music in our Sunday morning worship services, plus a few other special services (Christmas Eve etc.) during the year.  The Worship Director manages all aspects of worship music ministry – i.e. recruiting, planning, communication, and rehearsals – for our Worship Team (providing a mix of traditional hymns and praise songs):  the Worship Director also coordinates choral music with our Choir Director.  The Worship Director can also serve in other (non-music) ministry capacities, as those needs are identified and time allows.

Responsibilities:

*  Conduct regular weekly rehearsals for Worship Team, lead Sunday morning music, and special services such as Holy Week services, Easter and Christmas Eve.

*  Maintain familiarity with a variety of music styles that enhance worship and support the preaching message and theme.

*  Prepare and submit music program information to bulletin and newsletter in accordance with administrative deadlines and schedule.

*  Identify musical talents within the congregation and encourage members to use their musical gifts.

*  Oversee the music library, books and other related items.

*  Attend staff meetings and meet regularly with the Pastor.

Qualifications:

*  Trusts in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, as demonstrated by regular practice of faith.

*  Ability to lead from an instrument and vocally, and comfortable in both traditional and modern/contemporary styles.  PIANO LEAD OR GUITAR LED WORSHIP SKILLS ARE REQUIRED.

*  A heart and vision for worship that allows for a synthesis of a range of artistic styles, as reflected in our current Praise Team and Choir format.

*  Strong people skills, in order to collaborate with the Pastor and program staff, lay leaders, and musicians of all ages and abilities. Ability to lead staff or volunteers.

*  Knowledge and ability to sing and teach parts effectively.

*  Relevant high education desired, but not required.

 

POSITION DETAILS: Youth Director/Music Director

Start date: immediately

Hours: 32 hours per week

Pay: $23.50 to $28.50 per hour DOE
